As the Executive Director of Mama Dragons, I want to express our
organization’s profound concern and disagreement with the recent
policy change announced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints regarding transgender individuals. This new guideline, which
prohibits transgender individuals from fulfilling gender-specific roles,
serving as teachers, or working with children or youth, is deeply
troubling and misinformed.
At Mama Dragons, we stand firmly against any policy that marginalizes
or discriminates against transgender individuals. There is no credible
evidence to suggest that transgender people are more likely to be
involved in inappropriate behavior or that they pose a greater risk to
children. On the contrary, the vast majority of transgender individuals
are as committed to safeguarding and nurturing children as anyone
else. This policy not only lacks a basis in evidence but also fosters an
environment of fear and mistrust.
Transgender individuals, like all people, deserve the opportunity to
contribute meaningfully to their communities without facing
discrimination based on their gender identity. Our mission at Mama
Dragons is to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community, and we firmly
believe that every individual, regardless of their gender identity, should
be treated with respect and given equal opportunities.
The introduction of such policies creates a climate of fear and
uncertainty for our members and their families, undermining the safe
and supportive environment that is crucial for their well-being. Our
communities must continue to embrace inclusivity and reject fear-driven
policies that harm rather than help.
We call upon all communities, religious or otherwise, to recognize the
value and dignity of every individual and to ensure that their policies
reflect compassion, understanding, and respect for all people.
Transgender individuals are not a danger to children; they are valued
members of our society who deserve the same opportunities and
protections as everyone else.
Mama Dragons remains committed to advocating for the rights and
dignity of transgender individuals and will continue to support our
community in the face of such challenges.
