All Mamas Are Welcome

Creating a Diverse Space

Every mother who loves an LGBTQ+ child belongs here. When we say everyone, we mean everyone.

Our name says “Mama,” and we mean it broadly. Our private community is for mothers and for those who hold the mothering role in a child’s life, however that looks in your family: biological, adoptive, and foster mothers, stepmothers, and others who love an LGBTQ+ child the way a mother does. That includes transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse parents who hold the mothering role, whatever name they use for it. Every member goes through our vetting process.

That space is centered on the mothering role, and we hold that line on purpose. It isn’t open to family members and friends outside that role. It exists so mothers can say the true thing out loud, among people who understand it, without worrying who is listening.

If you love an LGBTQ+ person and aren’t in that role, there is still a place for you. Dads, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings, and friends are all welcome to learn with us through Empowered Parent Learning. Your presence in a young person’s life matters, and we want you to feel informed and prepared to show up for them.

We are also fully affirming of gender diversity. That includes transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive children, and the parents who love them. Your child’s identity is not a problem to be solved here. It’s a life to be celebrated and protected.

Mothers come to us from every race, ethnicity, ability, faith tradition, and walk of life. Sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, and religion all shape how a mother experiences this journey, how her child moves through the world, and what her community offers or withholds. We pay attention to all of it, because a mother can’t be fully supported if part of who she is gets left at the door.

So we build spaces for the experiences that need them. Mamas of Color. Madres Dragones for Spanish-speaking moms. Groups for mothers of transgender children, mothers of children with special needs, and gender diverse parents. Religious-based groups for mothers whose faith is an anchor and for those finding their way out of it. Each one is a place where you don’t have to explain yourself before you’re understood.

We also believe belonging is something you keep learning. We share education on diversity and inclusion with our members and with our own leadership, inside our community and beyond it. We listen when we get it wrong. We won’t do this perfectly, but we will keep showing up and doing better, starting with the mothers who need support the most.

Come as you are. There’s a place for you here.
